As a property manager, you want to do everything in your power to make your tenants happy. One way to do this is by encouraging healthy eating habits among them!

By providing some simple tips, you can help make it easier for your tenants to make healthier choices and live a more balanced life. In this blog post, we will discuss 7 ways that you can promote healthy eating in your multifamily property. Keep reading for helpful advice that can benefit both you and your renters alike!

“Pay your farmer,
not your pharmacist!”

Farmer’s Market & CSA

One great way to promote healthy eating among your tenants is by providing them with access to fresh fruits and vegetables. This can be done in a few ways: by hosting a farmer’s market on-site, or by partnering with a CSA (community supported agriculture) program. Both of these options provide your tenants with easy and convenient access to fresh, local produce.  As the saying goes – pay your farmer not your pharmacist!

Meal Planning and Prepping

Another way to encourage healthy eating is by teaching your tenants about the benefits of meal planning. Meal planning can help save money, reduce stress, and make it easier to stick to a healthy diet. A wellness expert can provide your tenants with helpful tips, recipes, and advice on how to prep foods for the week, in a way that works for them. Find or record helpful videos on meal planning and send to your residents. If you don’t have time to create your own, there are many content producers creating these regularly, who would be thrilled to have you share their work with your network – just remember to always give credit where it’s due.

Cooking Classes

Everyone loves a great cooking class and it can be a great way to encourage healthy eating among your tenants. This will give your tenants the skills and knowledge they need to easily prepare healthy meals, regardless of their budget. The chef can provide tips and recipes that are affordable and easy to follow. This is a great way to help tenants understand healthy eating can be an option for them, while also saving money on food.

Food Delivery Services

If cooking classes aren’t their thing, you could always encourage your tenants to try out food delivery services. Maybe they don’t want to cook or go out in public for lunch. Maybe it’s because their schedule is so busy that cooking seems like too much work. Whatever the reason, there are plenty of healthy foods that can be found for delivery. Create a list of local restaurants that promote healthy, organic and/or local farm-to-table options and promote this to your residents regularly. You can even try ordering some for a tasting event to promote the local healthy eats in your community.

Grow Healthy Food

Encourage tenants to grow their own food by creating a community garden or teaching courses around growing food in their apartment. Balcony gardens are also a great way to promote healthy eating, as they allow residents to grow their own produce right at home. Throw an event to plant some healthy staples to grow at home. You can even provide them with some of the things they’ll need, such as small planters, seeds and some high-quality planting soil. These are small expenses for the large benefit your tenants will get. Not only will it liven up their living environment with greenery, it also promotes better air quality and a constant reminder of something their property provided to them.

Recipe Exchange

Encourage a sense of community among your tenants by hosting a recipe exchange. This is a fun and easy way for residents to share their favorite healthy recipes with one another. Who knows – they might even discover a new dish that they love!

Here are a few tips for hosting your own recipe exchange:

  • Plan ahead: Make sure you have enough copies of recipes to go around, along with ingredients for tasting.
  • Create a theme: Whether it’s healthy breakfast recipes or vegan dishes, choose a theme that will interest your tenants.
  • Set the date: Set the date in advance and promote the event. This will help ensure that everyone can attend and participate.

Potluck Picnic

Food has a beautiful way of bringing people together.  Host a potluck picnic for residents and have them bring their favorite healthy dish to share. This allows residents to either make a dish or pick one up if cooking just isn’t their thing.  This is a wonderful way for everyone to enjoy the outdoors and get to know each other better. Plus, it’s a fun way to try new food!

Encouraging healthy eating habits among your tenants is a great way to show that you care about their wellbeing. By implementing some of the tips mentioned above, you can make it easier for them to make healthier choices and live a more balanced life. These are just a few ways that you can promote healthy eating among your tenants – get creative and see what works best for your community!
